Art Walk Mini-Preview: Here's a Glance.

Colter Coffee Roasting has Local Color Studio owner, Danielle Taylor, a mixed-medium artist who lives in downtown Somers, MT. Upstairs, at the Main Street Loft: Gypsy Framing (Erin Burke-Webster) and Magic Lantern Slides by Patty Burke. Downstairs, pottery and jewelery from various local artists.

Ceres Bakery hosts the artwork of Dawn Duane Evans. Evans has hand-painted silk scarves, designer brooms and a variety of paintings. She also has a studio and gallery (159 North Main Street) just north of Bikology - Everyday Art Studio - open for the Art Walk. Lynon Lohof,  a photographer with a series taken in Glacier National Park and another from Yellowstone National Park.

Noice Studio & Gallery: Marshall Noice and his daughter, a multi-talented artist, Sarsten Noice. Her artwork and music are featured in the video below.

Shorty's Barbershop: Eclectic mix of local artists including, Jarod Schwab (paintings, as well as orginal T-shirt designs.  Local artist, Luke Smith, will be demonstrating live painting.

Lee Proctor is a likable guy.  He also fabricates incredible works made with glass and metal. This local artist will have an installation at 124 Main Street (next door to Flowers By Hansen) through the winter season. Currently, the collection includes a Nouveau floor lamp and blown glass pottery.

The annual Art Walk and Holiday Stroll in downtown Kalispell is scheduled for Friday December 2 from 5 pm - 9 pm.

Downtown businesses can take part in two ways. Become a participant for $100, or sponsor the event for $50. Larger sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Imagination Station Celebrates 10 years in Downtown Kalispell

 The Imagination Station in downtown Kalispell is celebrating its 10th anniversary until Saturday with 10% off storewide. The imagination Station is also a "Wooden Coin" participant.
 
"The WOODEN COIN," Coins have a value of $5.00 off a purchase of $25.00 or greater - one per purchase at participating Downtown Kalispell merchants/restaurants.. MONTANA TALES, AND OTHER BAD-ASS BUSINESS

This Saturday October, 1 at the KM Theater in downtown Kalispell - MONTANA TALES, AND OTHER BAD-ASS BUSINESS.

This is a must see event.

Troy Evans tells a variety of stories from different stages of his life.  He has performed the show from New York to Los Angeles and likes to describe it as ”an autobiography told by ghosts”.  The show is funny and moving, and many audience members have said the show is their favorite theatrical experience ever.  

Troy was born in Missoula in 1948, and moved to Kalispell in 1954. He attended Cornelius Hedges, Central High school, and FCHS. He attended U of M for one year before being drafted and sent to Viet Nam. When he returned in 1969 he operated a business known as “THE OLD GREY JOHN DEERE DANCE HALL” with Jamie Lenon, and the next year opened a beer and music venue, “THE POWDER KEG”, which was a huge success for a short time.

Troy started acting at FVCC in 1970, and after several delays that included MSU, The Veterans Mental hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming, and a stint in Montana State Prison, he moved to California in 1976 to pursue an acting career. In the past 35 years he has appeared in over 50 movies, and 400 television episodes.

Long Way Home Journeys of a Chinese Montanan

In 1936, seven-year-old Flora, her parents and her seven siblings left their home in Boston. They crossed the Pacific in a 21-day voyage to return to their parents' village in rural southern China. Flora's father and mother sought a new, quiet life for their family in their native land.

But this was a different China and Flora's family would not find the peace they sought. China's Communist Party had begun its rise toward revolution. And in 1937, Japan launched a full-scale invasion of China. Within a few years, full-scale world war engulfed Flora's new home.

By age 18, Flora learned she was engaged to be married. Working to ensure the safety of her six daughters, Flora's mother Chen Sun Ho, had set a plan in motion to arrange marriages for each girl. Soon, Flora began a new life in Montana, worlds away from her small village. It was here that the timid girl grew into a wife, mother, business owner and athlete.

From rice paddies to high mountains, from dodging warplanes to running marathons, Flora's odyssey has covered much of the world. Now, drawing on letters, recollections and family stories, Flora has written a sharp, personal memoir. She will be in Kalispell Thursday, September 22 to sign copies of her new book.
Copies of the book will be available for $18.

Live Music @ The Split Rock Cafe in Downtown Kalispell

Von Jetzen: First person to swim length of Lake Chelan

Kalispell long-distance swimmer, Emily Von Jentzen, who last year became the first woman and just the third person to swim the 28-mile length of Flathead Lake, is now the first person to swim the length of Lake Chelan in Washington.

Von Jetzen who helped raise money last year for, Karmyn Flanagan, a young girl battling battling acute lymphoblatic leukemia, was again pursuing a goal greater and deeper than skimming across the surface of the narrow 55-mile long lake Chelan (the third deepest lake in the United States, 1486 feet deep).

Again she was swimming for a child with cancer. This time for, Katelyn "KK" Roker. Roker is a 5-year old from Kalispell who is battling Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a high-risk cancer.

What's Happening

Today at 126 North Meridian Road the Red Cross is holding a blood drive. Tomorrow afternoon (2 pm at Lone Pine State Park) there is a 'Leave No Trace' seminar from the Center for Outdoor Ethics. For more info, call 755-2706.

On Monday, Labor Day, there is a community potluck at Lawrence Park from 1-7 p.m. to celebrate the working men and women of the Flathead Valley. Please bring a dish to share.

Flathead High School officials are reminding people that the deadline for "Legends Wall of Fame" nominations is October 7th. To date 17 community members have been inducted. Contact Dan Zorn (751-3416) with your nomination.
